Not sure if I like the new layout :P

Quake 4 was great up until the big plot twist. Why they didn’t just prioritize multiplayer like Quake 3 is beyond me.

I’m still banging away on the new layout, but what don’t you like about it (don’t worry, I appreciate criticism.) What did you like about the previous design?

As for Quake 4, even though I got it for $3+shipping from Gamestop, I still had to force myself to plod through the game. The singleplayer is boring, and as you mentioned, there wasn’t nearly enough focus put on the multiplayer to make it entertain.

I played Quake 2 to death, and I mean really, to death. I played it everyday online, with a lame 56k modem, for 2 years. While I didn’t play online with Quake 3 as much, I did play it a lot over the course of 5 years off and on. Both games, I consider, the pinnacle of multiplayer mayhem fun. Quake 4 was a real letdown. id Software shouldn’t have green lighted it when Raven showed them the final results.

I think the main problem is they tried to shoe horn the Quake 3 vibe into a Doom 3 movement/physics multiplayer. They would have been better off trying to give the game it’s own signature multiplayer(classes maybe?) without making it feel like it was tacked on.

It may be personal preferance but I liked the top to bottom readability of the previous layout. The stuff being on the right of the video is a bit distracting and taking away from the main focus of the site in my opinion.

With that said I do like how it’s layed out in comments with the screenshots on the right and such. It’s when it’s bundled with all the other videos on the main page that it looks cluttered.

Btw Matt I’d like to see your blurbs, like the one you typed above, on each video. I know this isn’t a review site but I think you’d generate more comments if you gave your opinion on things - people might feel more inclined to respond to either agree or refute what you’re saying. Just a thought :)

I’m glad you’re back from your hosting woes!

id probably forbade them from doing classes because it’d compete with Quake Wars. It’d cause confusion.

I appreciate the feedback. I admit that the simplicity of the previous design will make any future design seem cluttered if there’s more information presented. The site has been stagnant for almost a year now, hardly growing. I’m hoping that by this new design and more information provided, plus the screenshots, that the site will grow more.

For blurbs, a lot of people enjoy this site because the videos do the talking. If I add my own opinions (I’ve tried this, it didn’t feel right) it may color the impressions people get before and/or after watching the video.

For what it’s worth, I am rather enjoying Q4 as a brainless (but competently executed) shooter diversion. The weapons feel completely right, the pacing is great, and the voice acting is good. Oh, and it still looks good.

I guess it’s shooter popcorn :)
